I first fell in love with Raven while watching Teen Titans in the mid 2000’s. The sadness within her soul stems from a knowledge of what is yet to come, echoes forward into her dark, rude, yet kind persona, and when it comes the time for her to fulfil what is said to be her destiny, she chooses her friends and forges a new path ahead.
5 years ago, I made the Raven cosplay you see regularly in my collection, not from the comfort of my own home but from an apartment I had to stay in due to circumstances beyond my control. This didn’t stop me from completing my goal, and this costume has allowed me to bring laughter and smiles to many!!
I’m so happy when people who truly love her see this cosplay!! I know she’s become more popular due to the newer cartoon and live series (which I haven’t seen, I feel any trailers I’ve seen don’t do the titans justice) but I chose her long before she was known, because she was unknown. I also I feel connected to her past, making her one of the characters I attribute as part of my personality, which makes me feel truly like her when I’m cosplaying! (However, some days, I fall to being more like her ‘white’ self! Maybe one of these days that outfit will make an appearance….)
A siren from the DC Comics, based this character first made her debut back in 1992, when creators Paul Dini and Bruce Timm decided that it was too bizarre for the Joker himself to jump out of a pop out cake. He ended up doing anyways, but not before they had made a female sidekick/love interest. The inspiration for her costume came from Dinn’s college friend Arleen Sorkin, who performed a dream sequence wearing a jester costume in Days of Our Lives. Because of their history, Dinn easily incorporated aspects of her personality into the character. Quinn was also inspired by a mutual female friend’s “stormy but nonviolent relationship”, according to Timm.
A former psychiatrist falling in love with the thing she was trying to cure – utter madness. This character gives us insight into a twisted side of human nature, and shows us how easy it is to slip into this tunnel of madness.
