Hello All!! As some of you know, Captain America and others of the Random Acts of Costuming Group have been popping into Kelowna General Hospital to cheer up patients and staff alike.
We are putting a request out to those wishing to donate to either the Cap’s backpack, or directly to the Kelowna General Hospital Pediatrics Ward Collection! Please contact us at facebook.com/RAOCd/. Also contact us If interested in participating in a bit of randomness and cheer, know that you are always welcome to join us! Let’s remember what it’s like to be a kid in a lonely hospital room and ensure that these children have an interesting and delightful stay!
Having been in this town for many years, I’ve watched this mall swallow up the space Wal-Mart Left, putting in a food court, and later a Sport Chek, Timmies, EB Games & Best Buy, and now expanding once again. They really concern themselves with making it into a hub for people to chill, relax, and do some therapy shopping!! There are also seasonal shops which pop up in the middle of the other shops, check them out during the holidays for favorites such as the Log Barn!
It’s always fairly clean for the amount of traffic that goes through. This location also makes an excellent place to have a wind friendly walk in the early hours, (as later hours do get crowded) for those who don’t wish to be stuck to a treadmill.
HI I’m Raven, I just got back from Random Acts of Costuming, where we cheered up some kids and some people, I put on my best smile, and now without any further ado, here is SarahTonin’s Exploration Update for the Month of September. Teen Titans GO!
Didn’t go many places, but we did make some delicious shish
kabobs and had a corn feast, which if you see there, I’ve taken two slices of tomato
and slathered them on the corn. (This to be done after normal condiments
applied, butter, salt and pepper) That’s how you do it RIGHT!
Saw this spectacular sunrise, peeking out from behind a fire
Snapped a few shots of this excellent sunset on the way back
Went camping, made some camp food! Yes, Omelets ARE camp
And I thought I’d end it on a funny note. Why can’t you
Trust an Artist? Because….They’re Shady! They’re Sketchy! AND they might try
to Frame you! Have a great week guys and hopefully I’ll explore way more things this month however as
the winter months set in, I tend to bunker down and hibernate…and wait for
the cold to go away! So you may see me venture out, once in a while, but expect
to see more updates in regards to Tutorials, and other such likes! Stay Tuned!
Friendly homey atmosphere that makes you want to relax and unwind. Have a tea, coffee, or pastry and let a charming barista take your order, then make it for you while you watch! It makes an excellent end of day location, as it’s store front faces towards the sunset, allowing you to bask in it’s glow.
I spotted an ‘unknown’ berry a few weeks back, however not knowing the name of the berry doesn’t mean I’m not aware of when its prime time for picking is, so I had set out today to get a few, in hopes of bringing home and researching. As I was harvesting the fells, a grandma and her two grand-kids passed me and she asked ‘Are those berries edible?’ to which I replied, I was pretty sure the berries weren’t poisonous, but there was something odd about them that pointed to toxicity, so I’d be researching when I got home, as I was pretty sure they were soap berries or something to that effect.. She correctly nomenclatured them as Yew berries, which, I was correct, the berry itself is completely harmless, however as little as THREE of the seeds can do incredible harm! Even the foliage itself can kill you!
“The entire yew bush, except the aril (the red flesh of the berry covering the seed), is poisonous. It is toxic due to a group of chemicals called taxine alkaloids. Their cardiotoxicity is well known and act via calcium and sodium channel antagonism, causing an increase in cytoplasmic calcium currents of the myocardial cells. The seeds contains the highest concentrations of these alkaloids. If any leaves or seeds of the plant are ingested, urgent medical advice is recommended as well as observation for at least 6 hours after the point of ingestion. “
**BIG BIG (Hair) NEWS** I’m helping out with the Kelowna Comic Con this year, which is hosting a variety of celebrities, cosplayers and creators, including none other then Peter Kelamis, (known for the voice of Goku)! Which..uh..DUH means SUPER SAYAIN GOKU TIME!!!! So head down to the Kelowna Curling Club and keep your eyes peeled for a flame of hair! See you there!
P.S.f you come Sunday, be sure to check out the RWBY BC Cosplayers – Creating Cosplay Communities Panel!
This place is incredible! Once a month, they hold a pizza draw online, and when you win, you get LOADED with pizza!!! Our office of 20 was easily fed by the amount, their pizza was delectable and their wings not soggy! I feel this place makes their product for the right reasons, and I hope their quality and care will continue!
Princess Leia made an appearance at Quest Martial Art’s Academy’s‘Spar Wars’. These guys create a safe environment for those who enjoy fighting, and prompt students to better themselves. The teachers are witty, funny, caring and down to earth, so know that you or your child/teenager will be getting excellent care.
Headed out to Vernon on the weekend for May the 4th Celebrations, Vernon hosted a Comic-Con! Ran into the 501st, and immediately asked Vader if it was a lady under there, and to my pleasant surprise, a lady’s voice replied! I met her last year, there is only one lady who troops as Darth Vader, the force truly is strong with this one! Coupled with her husband dressed as Boba Fett, the two make an intimidating and awe inspiring moment for those who are brave enough to face the Dark lord.
Stopped by Munin’s with the RWBY group for a specialty crafted coffee beer (SHHH don’t tell Uncle Crow!) then into Safeway to grab the makings of a pizza, a vegi platter and an already made Hawaiin pizza !
Headed out with the RAOC group a couple times this month to the Kelowna General Hospital, where we set out to provide special moments to children, and anyone else who we could make smile!
Some of my earliest memories of Kelowna are of this very park. My memere (French Grandmother) took me downtown when I was 2, where we wandered through this park feeding birds. In 1997, a wind/hail storm blew through Kelowna, knocking over a bunch of trees in this park. You’ll note the ones that were replanted easily due to size variations, all towering and providing well needed shade on lazy hot summer days! A tribute to this was created by Peter Ryan, and is on display in City Park adjacent to the water park. A great place to take pictures, relax, play some volleyball or jump in the lake!
Okanagan’s $100 million Hailstorm – July 21, 1997. A destructive hail and wind storm ripped through the orchards of the Okanagan. It was the worst storm in memory with nearly 40% of the crop deemed unsuitable for fresh market. The rain and hail was accompanied by winds gusting to 100 km/h that capsized boats in the interior lakes, and caused power outages and traffic accidents.
