Compliments – A Tool So Often Misused

I came across this article this morning, “Self-Sabotage in Relationships and the One Question We’re Not Asking” by Crystal Jackson, and the words ‘Men compliment us, and if we don’t fall over with gratitude, they act like we’re egomaniacs.’ – stuck out to me. Personal experience as a Cosplayer and a woman, I’ve been complimented in the past, then when I haven’t answered back the way they hoped for, the person will either become moody, or continue pushing to the point of harassment in hopes of achieving their desired result.

It proceeds to say ‘The compliment isn’t really a compliment then, is it? It’s just a tool they use to get what they want. Otherwise, it would be freely given, without expectations attached. ‘ The writer then goes into detail of how she doesn’t even bother reading messages that start with a compliment, followed up by a question that was clearly answered by a quick look at her bio, finished off with a sentence starting a relationship with her without bothering to ask if she was interested. (Sound familiar?)

Compliments are just compliments, and too many people, men and women alike, use these to get what they want, and don’t bother asking if the person is truly interested in them or the project they are working on. This needs to be recognized as a form of manipulation and needs to be stopped.

I feel the article’s title is a bit off-topic, however I feel that it provides us the solution to the problem so many people face. “We need to start asking! It’s not wrong to be interested and to even reach out and communicate that interest. To proceed as if our interest is implied by our very existence is ridiculous.

I give away random compliments daily in an effort to make this world a brighter place, but I don’t expect anything extra from providing it, nor do I use them to get my way, and I get right irate at those who think their smooth words are going to push me into doing something I don’t care or want to do. Like anything, compliments can be used for good or bad, it’s how we use them that counts. Ask yourself, am I using this compliment for something? If so, is it to make the world a better place? Or is it for personal gain? Each one of us holds this tool, it’s up to you to choose how it’s used!

2020 Exploration Updates – Now InstaScenes

As I step into this new year, I feel my effort can be better spent by using InstaGram’s built in features of Stories. Starting today, you’ll start seeing updates of where I’m at and what I’m doing, a quicker way of keeping you in the know, and an easier way for me to keep track of where I’ve been!

Any helpful feedback is greatly appreciated as I embark on this new adventure, one that has encouraged me to get out more and show off my beautiful town, and hopefully, maybe someday, the world!

Story Twisters

I like to talk – SURPRISE! However, when it comes down to it, what I especially like is exchanging stories – you tell a story, I tell a story vice versa – I am fairly open and completely honest about my life, as I don’t believe in keeping secrets, or hiding how I feel, who knows maybe my stories will help you, as I know many people’s stories have helped me! However, if you are going to judge everything I say without an open mind, I probably won’t share anymore stories with you.

That being said, one day, I realized things I had said were coming back to me twisted through another in an effort to make the subject of my story look like an ass, this person also feeding the information to someone else I had already moved away from speaking to, as similar events had occurred. I’m all for sharing stories, but to manipulate a story for your own use! – It wasn’t just one story either, it was every single one that I told about this particular person, and they decided according to their finite knowledge that this person was a piece of garbage and that I shouldn’t associate. – I was appalled, and immediately cut ties with this person, removing them from Facebook and any other social site.

I’d like to be very clear. Just because your way of life is different then mine, and you don’t care or want to understand it, doesn’t give you the right to pass critical judgement behind my back and say what I should or shouldn’t do. I will tell you my opinion on a situation if you ask for it, based on my experiences, but I will NOT say you HAVE to follow what I say, it is your life.

Now I write this in hopes of making some soul feel better about doing the same. It is not right for others to twist your stories, and you have a right to say NO and to remove these harmful people from your life. ‘It takes all sorts to make a world!’ as my late New Zealander friend Alice used to say, and it is up to you which ones you chose to love, and why, not everyone else’s business.

P.S. If you feel I ever missed or misconstrued information in telling a story, please let me know!! I’m only human, so know if I did, it wasn’t in malicious intent.

Repairs!

Let’s say you’ve gone and dropped your grandmother’s teapot, and while you’re aware this item will never be as good as new, and you probably won’t ever use it for tea again, this item holds memories you can’t discard. Or, you’re favorite outfit has a hole in the pant leg, or your hairpiece’s flower is coming apart, or maybe, it’s your best friend’s necklace you borrowed for that event last week, but the chain has come apart! For a reasonable price let me fix up your sentimental item with as much care as my own! I may not be able to fix all, but I will be able to give you a general idea if the item is fixable or not.

Research Your Apps – Free Doesn’t Mean Free

I’m quite fond of the fact that in our technical day and age, it is becoming more and more common place to ‘Have an App for that!’ Apps make our lives easier, from helping cutting down extraneous tasks to graphic editing. For Android users, many apps are free, made by other users, which can include options such as either ‘Pay to use better options’ or ‘Pay to get rid of ads’.

That being said, an easily downloaded application has become scammers next target. A Toronto Security company has discovered an App called ‘Xhelper’ which is now termed as a malware that is impossible to remove, as it has the ability to reinstall itself and is designed to remain hidden! It even has code to ensure it isn’t deleted when a Factory Reset is prompted, and performs malicious actions such as “showing advertisements to the users, downloading and executing more malicious payloads from its remote server onto the users device”

My advice as a tech user is to research your apps before downloading! Look through those Reviews, weed out the Automated replies, make sure this app is right for you, and if it looks suspicious, DON’T DOWNLOAD!!!! And as an extra layer of protection, or to ensure that you haven’t already succumbed to this malware, install a malware detector.

Stay safe out there my friends!

Having been in this town for many years, I’ve watched this mall swallow up the space Wal-Mart Left, putting in a food court, and later a Sport Chek, Timmies, EB Games & Best Buy, and now expanding once again. They really concern themselves with making it into a hub for people to chill, relax, and do some therapy shopping!! There are also seasonal shops which pop up in the middle of the other shops, check them out during the holidays for favorites such as the Log Barn!

It’s always fairly clean for the amount of traffic that goes through. This location also makes an excellent place to have a wind friendly walk in the early hours, (as later hours do get crowded) for those who don’t wish to be stuck to a treadmill.

Excited to see what you guys have in store!
